Definition: Education for sustainable development<\/strong> aims to help people to develop the attitudes, skills and knowledge to make informed decisions for the benefit of themselves and others, now and in the future, and to act upon these decisions.<\/p>\n It is accepted that education has a major role to play. The question is how should education and in turn teacher education respond in practical turns?<\/p>\n Unesco suggests that education for Sustainable Development:<\/p>\n – concerns all levels of education and all social contexts (family, school, workplace, community);<\/p>\n – allows learners to acquire the skills, capacities, values and knowledge required to ensure sustainable development<\/p>\n – fosters responsible citizens and promotes democracy by allowing individuals and communities to enjoy their rights and fulfil their responsibilities<\/p>\n – provides essential learning tools and content to allow individuals to survive, to develop to their full capacities, to live and work in dignity, to participate fully in development, to improve the quality of their lives, to make informed decisions, and to continue learning.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" \u00a0 Definition: Education for sustainable development aims to help people to develop the attitudes, skills and knowledge to make informed decisions for the benefit of themselves and others, now and in the future, and to act upon these decisions.
