June 2008. \u00a0Robert Crocker and David Dibbon .<\/p>\n<p>This report provides the first composite snapshot of initial teacher education programs in Canada which collectively graduate some 18,000 teacher candidates each year. The research is based on a search of 56 institutional websites and data from a national survey of faculties of education, new teachers and their principals conducted in late 2007.<br \/>\nAnalysis of the results provides readers with a national profile and regional breakdowns on program elements and highlights relevant synergies and gaps in stakeholder perspectives on such key issues as program structure, content emphasis and usefulness, the practicum, preparedness for teaching and university-school collaboration.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>These findings are place in perspective through a thoughtful review of the literature and discussion of the major themes arising.
